Meryl Streep was ‘shocked’ that her former co-star Clint Eastwood was voting for Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.
‘I didn’t know that. I’ll have to speak to him. I’ll have to correct that!’ the 67-year-old acting legend told Variety on Monday.
‘I’m shocked. I really am, because he’s more – I would have thought he would be more sensitive than that.’
Back in 1995, the three-time Oscar winner played the onscreen love interest of the 86-year-old masculinity icon, who also directed The Bridges of Madison County.
Meryl – born Mary Louise – was told about the four-time Oscar winner’s interview with Esquire who lamented the PC-obsessed ‘p***y generation.’
‘I’d have to go for Trump, you know, because [Hillary Clinton] declared that she’s gonna follow in Obama’s footsteps,’ Clint – who infamously spoke to a chair at the 2012 RNC – told the mag.
‘What Trump is onto is he’s just saying what’s on his mind, and sometimes it’s not so good. And sometimes it is. I mean, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I don’t always agree with it.’
Back on June 6, the Suffragette star made fun of the 70-year-old Republican Party nominee by dressing like him at the Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala.
Streep then proudly spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on July 26.
‘The whole moment just overtook me,’ the Yale grad recalled.
‘I thought about my grandmother, who wasn’t allowed to vote — had three kids and wasn’t deemed capable. I mean, the smartest person I know. The whole thing was overwhelming. And when I went out I just felt what I felt. I did my Howard Dean scream!’
And while Eastwood is twice-divorced with eight children by six women, the Ricki and the Flash actress has four children with her husband of nearly 38 years – sculptor Don Gummer.
Meryl currently heads up the opera-singing comedy Florence Foster Jenkins – which finally hits US theaters this Friday – alongside Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg.
